A Letter From The Founder

by Guest User

When John Burdett and I co-founded Red Mountain Grace in 2013, we saw this as an opportunity to combine our gifts for business and love for Christ into an organization that meets the physical needs of lodging and the spiritual needs of support and authentic community.

We always wanted Red Mountain Grace to be an organization that "walks the walk and talks the talk." We wanted others to know about us through the excellence of caring for our guests and neighbors.

When we created this organization, we knew that it was never going to be sustainable through our own striving. We set up a practical business model, but we knew that God would be the one who would sustain our mission no matter what. Even in the COVID pandemic, He provided every need through our gracious supporters and volunteer network.

Today, God has grown our organization and we are at a pivotal point in our history. I wanted to let you in on what's happening.

We currently operate 17 apartments with a goal to get to 30 apartments by the end of the year. There is a role that you can play to help us reach that goal and ensure that no family is without a place to stay while they or a loved one is receiving long-term medical treatment.

Here’s the solution:

Join The Neighborhood — a passionate and hospitable group of monthly givers on a mission to provide housing for patients and families traveling to Birmingham for long term medical treatment.

The Neighborhood is all about knowing and loving the guests that walk through our doors and it's also about being known. Just like most of our own neighborhoods, we know each other, we help each other and we take care of one another. Red Mountain Grace's neighborhood is similar and our mission to provide gracious hospitality is driven by monthly sustainable giving.

The Neighborhood sustains our model of providing affordable, fully-furnished housing for just $10 a night. Let me just break that down for you.

In 2020, our guests’ average length of stay was 56 days. At a cost of $100 per night, that same length of stay at a hotel would equate to $5,600. Instead, Red Mountain Grace saved a guest over $5,000 in lodging expenses.

Isn't that amazing? This means that your monthly donation makes a world of difference for a family sleeping in a waiting room, their car or spending thousands of dollars to have a place to recover.

This is an exciting way to extend hospitality to our neighbors that are traveling to Birmingham for long-term medical treatment, and I want you to be a part of this good/hard work. It's so worth it to see the families that we get to serve and hear their stories.
